Falling in Love with the Moth Faerie Prince: A Sweet Romantic Comedy by Camilla Evergreen: Review & Themes ★★★★

Falling in Love with the Moth Faerie Prince: A Sweet Romantic Comedy by Camilla Evergreen After your sister finds her soulmate in a chihuahua shifter, and she spends her days curled up as a fluffy Pomeranian, you wonder if everything will be fixed if you go into her new world. When you hit the prince of your sister's new home, a moth faerie prince—with your pink car—you begin to believe that this might be the opportunity for your harrowing thoughts to stop.  Artistry and Craft Falling in Love with the Moth Faerie Prince may just be my favourite book in the (PARA)NORMAL series so. Firstly, I feel like in this novel, more than the other two, the author truly humanizes the fae, which is a feat considering the beautiful job she did with the other books. The parts that I found to be an improvement in Falling in Love with My Chihuahua Shifter—like the meta-references or bringing real franchises in from the "real" world—I found to be even better i...

My Country: The New Age: K-Drama Review & Themes ★★★★

My Country: The New Age K-Drama Review

My Country: The New Age. KDrama recommendation and review

My Country: The New Age is a powerful K-drama series that explores numerous themes surrounding the human condition while being set during the turbulent final years of the Goryeo dynasty. The drama follows two former friends, Seo Hwi and Nam Seon-ho, who become enemies in a civil war. As loyalties shift and power structures collapse, both men face impossible choices between family, loyalty, and justice.

Craftsmanship & Artistry

The cinematography in My Country is exceptional—each frame feels like a painting that is carefully crafted, captivating the viewer with its beauty and detail. The costumes and wardrobe are also fantastic and meaningful. It was fascinating to see how the armour looked heavy and realistic, how other weapons looked real, and how the colours and styles of the characters' clothing reflected their personalities and story arcs.

The storytelling itself is well-crafted. While the pacing dragged somewhat near the end one or two later episodes, it seemed intentional to me, serving as a narrative tool to show the exhausting nature of vengeance, the burden of hatred, and the futility of power. Overall, the storytelling was masterful and engaging; it left a lasting impression (★★★★).

Themes & Messages

This K-drama dives into a range of powerful themes and messages: oppression, revenge, justice, the weight of caregiving for a chronically ill loved one, and most importantly, redemption. There are so many layers that it’s difficult to list them all.

Tender moments are woven throughout the violence and chaos—such as when Hwi selflessly serves and protects his sister, or in the love stories that unfold amid war and bloodshed. These moments of friendship, selflessness, and love provide light and nobility in the dark landscape of the uncertain and violent times. (★★★★)

Final Thoughts

I believe My Country: The New Age is a worthwhile watch because it accurately portrays how oppression can corrupt individuals, relationships, and entire civilizations. I believe it is also a valuable K-drama to watch because it gives examples of virtue under pressure. Oftentimes, certain characters will choose to do morally right, even when they don't need to, simply because it is right to do so. For Christian viewers, this drama invites reflection on how virtue survives in unjust systems and broken in relationships. However, it’s important to note that the series contains a significant amount of violence. If you're uncomfortable with depictions of war or sword fighting, this might not be the drama for you. Overall, I’d definitely recommend My Country: The New Age to fans of historical dramas or to people who are just interested in learning about history through fictional means. Overall, my rating is 4 stars.
